Alexandra Ferreira
Alexandra Ferreira (born 1972) is a Portuguese artist based in Vila Viçosa. A Fine Arts graduate of ESAD.CR, she works across sculpture, photography and drawing.
Her work is represented in public and private collections. Since 2020, she has worked closely with the marble industry of the Estremoz region, exploring quarries and factories as spaces for artistic research. She approaches marble as a material in transformation, questioning ideas of permanence, production and waste. Her sculptures often combine natural and industrial materials, bringing together organic and artificial forms. They invite viewers to explore texture, proximity and movement through space. Research and experimentation are central to her practice. From 2005 to 2018, she collaborated with dramaturge Bettina Wind as the duo Windferreira, exploring public memory, documentation and politics. Their projects were presented internationally at venues including the Van Abbemuseum, Palais de Tokyo and the South African National Gallery.
