Ricardo Gigante
Ricardo Gigante (born 1969) is a Portuguese sculptor from Vila Viçosa. Rooted in the region’s marble-carving tradition, he combines skilled craftsmanship with a contemporary artistic approach.
He completed his sculpture studies at Ar.Co in Lisbon in 1996. Marble is central to his practice, shaped through direct carving and careful attention to surface finishes. His abstract sculptures explore organic forms, flowing curves and the relationship between solid volumes and empty space. Often slender and vertical, they bring a sense of lightness to the weight of stone. His works invite viewers to move around them, discovering changing shapes, textures and shadows. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Portugal and Spain. His career also includes participation in national and international sculpture symposia. His sculptures feature in institutional collections and public spaces in Portugal and abroad.
