Cesar Valerio
César Valério (born 1976) is a Portuguese sculptor and photographer based in Vila Viçosa.
His connection with marble began in childhood, in his father’s stoneworking workshop. At 17, he became an apprentice stonemason, learning the craft through hands-on experience. He created his first sculpture at 27, building on a decade of working with stone. Marble remains central to his artistic practice. His work includes figurative sculptures, animal subjects and abstract compositions. He draws inspiration from classical sculpture and Asian art. His approach combines detailed craftsmanship with a strong sense of movement and expression. Some of his sculptures weigh more than 1,500 kilograms, reflecting his experience with ambitious stone pieces. His practice continues the marble-working tradition of Vila Viçosa through a personal artistic vision.
